Bonesaw: The Game
Smart Enemies
My greatest accomplishment with this game and with this platform engine so far is the introduction to a smart enemy that actually will try to hunt the player down after spotting him. This enemy is capable of following the player up and down platforms, around corners, and basically through an entire level.
Right now there is only one enemy in the game that does this, and his AI is pretty simple. He makes decisions based on where the player is relative to himself, and what is in front of him, behind him, below him, and above him. He can navigate his way through most levels, but the player can shake him off if they jump up a series of back and forth platforms or just jump up to a really high set of platforms.
Obviously this is just the beginning, and I hope to implement some of the bigger boss enemies with AI like this.
The Bonesaw Weapon
What would a Bonesaw game be like if you couldn’t use the Bonesaw in some way shape or form?

The Bonesaw is the ultimate weapon in the game, and it can only be summoned by the player when the moment is right. The player has a “Bonesaw Bar” that fills up when you either deal damage, or receive damage. When it fills up completely, they can activate the Bonesaw which lasts until the Bonesaw Bar runs out. Using the Bonesaw drains the Bonesaw meter, but also regenerates your health which is pretty nifty.

The weapon has three different attacks, all equally devastating. The player can stand still and press attack for a basic slash, which will send any enemy flying (literally) and also deal massive damage. However, this attack is blockable by some enemies, as ridiculous as that may sound. The second attack can take care of this though. If the player holds forward and attacks, they will shoot out a Bonesaw beam of energy that will cut through any foe dealing massive damage. The third attack is the jump attack, where if the player hits attack while in the air they will do a somersault which will produce an aura of Bonesaw energy that deals damage to anything it touches.

Most players will probably save the Bonesaw for a challenging boss fight, but who knows when else you may need it.
